Caring for the Covers
The covers of AM quality mattresses are particularly soft, temperature-regulating, and moisture-regulating. To ensure they retain their excellent properties for a long time, gentle but effective care is important.
A clean topper cover significantly contributes to a hygienic sleeping environment. All covers from AM quality mattresses are equipped with a practical 4-sided zipper and can be completely removed. The top sides are washable at 60 °C – depending on the model, both sides may be.
Here's how to proceed step by step:
1. Observe washing instructions
Before washing, be sure to check the care label in the cover. In most cases, the top side is machine washable up to 60 °C – for some models, both sides may be.
Important: If your topper has a non-slip coating on the underside, it must not be washed.
An overfilled drum can damage the cover and impair the washing result. Especially with larger covers or very small washing machines, we recommend washing the top and bottom separately. In this case, divide the cover into two washes – this ensures that everything is thoroughly and gently cleaned.
Use a mild detergent and select a gentle wash program without a high spin speed.
2. Pull into shape
A slight shrinkage after washing is – as with many textiles – quite normal. Especially after the first wash, this can be somewhat more pronounced than with later washes.
So that the cover regains its original shape, it should be vigorously stretched by hand while still damp – ideally by two people. This makes it easy to pull it back over the mattress or topper. If this step was not done the first time, you can simply wash the cover again and then stretch it afterwards.
3. Drying
Ideally, let the cover air dry. If you still use the dryer, be sure to use a particularly gentle program at a low temperature. Again, please note the maximum filling weight of your machine.
An overfilled drum can lead to heat accumulation – and this in turn can cause enormous damage to the cover due to excessive temperatures. To ensure the longevity of the cover, we recommend gentle drying with sufficient space in the drum.
Important: The cover must be completely dry before you put it back on. A still damp cover is inflexible, more difficult to handle, and in the worst case can lead to unpleasant odors or mold growth.
4. General tips
Washing frequency:
→ Every 3–6 months, or more often if you have allergies or sweat heavily
→Excessive washing is not necessary and can even shorten the lifespan.
Treat stains immediately:
→ With mild soapy water or a stain remover for delicate fabrics
Do not iron, unless absolutely necessary
→ then on a low setting and without steam
Pilling of the cover: Friction with the bed linen can cause small nodules to form on the surface of the cover over time – similar to a knitted sweater. This so-called pilling is completely normal and does not affect function or quality.
→ If the nodules are visually disturbing, you can easily treat the cover carefully with a lint shaver.
