A slatted frame requires little, but targeted care – this is the only way to ensure that it remains permanently stable and supportive. With the following tips, you can extend the life of your slatted frame and ensure consistently high sleeping comfort:

1. Regular cleaning

Remove dust and dirt every few months with a vacuum cleaner (using a brush attachment) or a slightly damp cloth.

Important: Pay special attention to cleaning the slat supports and the frame structure, as dust accumulates here and can impair the flexibility of the slats.

2. Check and Tighten Screws

Once a year, you should check all connections:

  • Are the screws still tight?

  • Is anything wobbly?

If necessary, carefully tighten all screws – this prevents creaking and instability.

3. Visual Inspection for Damage or Material Fatigue

Pay attention to the following signs regularly:

  • Bent or broken slats

  • Worn or damaged rubber mounts

  • Sagging frames or crossbars

If visible damage is present, affected parts should be replaced, or the entire slatted frame should be replaced.

4. Ensure Good Ventilation

Especially with beds with a bed box, it is important that the slatted frame is regularly ventilated.

Tip: Avoid air-impermeable mattress toppers – these trap moisture and can promote mold growth.

5. What you should avoid

  • Point Load: Do not sit on the edge regularly – this can overload the slats.

  • Moisture: Avoid moisture – wood can warp or mold.

  • Jumping on the slatted frame: This can damage slats or supports.

Additional tip:

If your mattress suddenly feels uncomfortable, it is worth taking a look at the slatted frame. Often the problem is not the mattress – but a sagging or worn slatted frame.
