The best way to care for your mattress
1. wash the cover regularly
A clean mattresscover contributes significantly to a hygienic sleeping environment. All AM quality mattress covers are equipped with a practical 4-sided zipper, are completely removable and can be washed at 60 °C.
Here's how to proceed step by step:
Removing the cover
Open the all-round zipper and carefully pull off the cover. Make sure that the mattressnot damage the mattress core.
Follow the washing instructions
Always check the care label on the cover before washing. As a rule, our covers are machine washable at 60 °C.
An overfilled drum can damage the mattresscover and impair the washing result. We recommend washing larger covers or very small washing machines in particular, wash the top and bottom separately. In this case, split the cover into two wash cycles - this will ensure that everything is cleaned thoroughly and gently. Use a mild detergent and select a gentle wash program without a high spin speed
Pull into shape
As with many textiles, a slight shrinkage after washing is quite normal. Especially after the first wash, this can be somewhat more pronounced than with subsequent washes.
To ensure that the cover returns to its original shape, it should be stretched by hand while still damp. stretched vigorously by hand ideally by two people. This way, it can then be easily put back over the mattress again. If this step was not carried out the first time, you can simply wash the cover again and then re-stretch it.
Drying
Ideally, you should leave the air dry the cover. However, if you do use the tumble dryer, make sure you use a particularly gentle program at a low temperature. Here too, please note the maximum filling weight of your machine.
An overfilled drum can lead to heat accumulation – and this in turn can cause enormous damage to the cover due to excessive temperatures. To ensure the longevity of the cover, we recommend gentle drying with sufficient space in the drum.
Important: The cover must be completely dry before you put it back on. A still damp cover is inflexible, more difficult to handle, and in the worst case can lead to unpleasant odors or mold growth.
Put the cover back on:
After washing and completely drying, pull the cover back over the mattress. mattresscore and close the zipper carefully. Pull the cover together slightly, piece by piece, before closing the zipper a little further each time. This avoids tension in the fabric and makes it easier to pull the cover on evenly.
2. regular rotation and turning
Turning and rotating your mattress regularly helps to distribute wear evenly and maintain its shape and comfort in the long term.
Why is this important?
By turning and rotating the mattress, you minimize the risk of pressure points forming. The mattress retains its shape for longer and supports your body evenly over the long term.
How often should this be done?
We recommend turning and flipping the mattress about every three months. This means
- Turn: Swap head and foot end
- Turning: Change the top and bottom sides
This is the right way:
Turn:
Stand at the side of the mattress and carefully turn it 180 degrees so that the head end becomes the foot end.
Turning:
Lift the mattress slightly on one side and tilt it slowly to the other side. Make sure you adopt a posture that is easy on your back - ideally you should do this step with two people.
Important:
If your mattress has a firmly defined top and bottom side - for example with a gel layer on the top side - it should only be turned, but not turned be turned.
3. further care tips for a long service life of your mattress
✓ Ventilate regularly: Allow the mattress to breathe regularly for a few hours without bedding - ideally in the morning after getting up. This allows absorbed moisture to escape and creates a comfortable sleeping environment.
✓ Use a protective topper: A mattress protector or topper can provide additional protection and keep the mattress clean.
✓ Avoid direct sunlight: Protect your mattress from direct sunlight to prevent material fatigue or discoloration.
✓ Do not apply heat: The use of electric blankets or other heat sources can accelerate the ageing process of the foam. We recommend that you do not apply additional heat directly to the mattress.
✓ Pilling of the cover: Over time, friction with the bedding can cause small pilling on the surface of the cover - similar to a knitted sweater. This so-called pilling is completely normal and does not affect function or quality.
If you are visually disturbed by the pilling, you can easily remove the cover with a lint shaver carefully.
✓ Check the condition of the slatted frame: A "tired slatted frame" - i.e. a slatted frame whose slats or bearings have lost their resilience and elasticity - can significantly impair the effect of your mattress. Make sure that your slatted frame is stable, elastic and functional so that the mattress can fully develop its supportive properties. You can find out how to recognize a tired slatted frame here.
